eLAY is an award winning singer/musician who has played drums from the UK to the USA. He has won the accolades of both regional and national drummer of the year in Birmingham and London.
eLAY got into session work & has worked in all different musical situations in many genres with many artist & bands. These include Massive Attack’s vocalist Shara Nelson; poet Anne Clark and singer, Jaki Graham, ranging from trip hop to jazz.
Some words from eLAY and his music: “I love music, all kinds of music. If the music pumps. I’m in.”
He comes from one of the homes of music. Even though eLAY’s not old enough to have been there at the time, there was once a venue called ‘Mothers’in his home town of Erdington. Jimi Hendrix, ELO, and even Radio 1 all appeared at this very popular venue. With all of these musical influences under his belt, eLAY picked up playing other instruments to design & create his music. eLAY says he always had the ideas in his head, but needed to put these ideas to work, down in the studio.
eLAY has come back from a terrible illness to get right back on track, and appreciates the support of his family through this hard time. Of the illness he says,”Kind of hard to talk about the illness right now, but all I can say for now is family plays a real great part in getting you to think forward & progress in life! Thank you.”
He also has this to say about his forthcoming album:
“My aim was to make a funk/indie/commercial mix with this album, impregnating a different flavor of genres in a song. It was so cool to push the barriers to try come out with something. It’s all about splitting the head into four groups to see what comes out! Also I love mistakes. I listen, listen, listen. You never know what can be created”.
I have watched a trailer to eLAY’s upcoming video releases.
The trailer cleverly starts with a vinyl record playing on a turntable, then leads to a clip of ‘Get Serious’ which has a Brazilian beat and flavor to it. It has an upbeat, retro vibe.. The song is about someone who is not serious in a relationship and the other person trying to find happiness to get things to work out.
The trailer then moves to ‘Crush’, although this is a very short teaser, I can tell this song is catchy. It is about waiting for someone you would like to have as your partner or to marry.
The clip of ‘Electric City’ is a more funky, lavish and glamorous affair. This is the first release we can look forward to. It is about enjoying yourself in clubs anywhere in the world, and the “bright lights” and entertainment associated with those big cities.
The trailer ends with “Busted” which seems like it will be a very unusual and imaginative video about a song to do with not having any money.
Look out for eLAY’s music!
