I was lucky enough to see Who’s Who last Saturday at the Robin 2. The tribute band to the legendary Who were formed in London in 1996. The band are widely respected by members of, and those close to, The Who. Famous fans of the band include Simon Townshend and Kenney Jones. Who’s Who were supported by Robin 2 regulars , the excellent Jack Fletcher Band. (You very quickly get caught up in the electrifying atmosphere Who’s Who create, it's very easy to run out of superlatives to describe the performance! The full range of The Who’s amazing repertoire are faultlessly covered, including songs from the rock opera Tommy, with the energy and passion to match. As well as the classics like Baba o’Riley, Pinball Wizard and My Generation, I was particularly impressed by lead singer Gary o’Donnel's amazing vocals on the cover of ‘Water’ and also the mesmerising drum solo from Paul Kemp on the instrumental ‘Sparks’. Kemp's drumming and look has an unbelievable likeness to the legend, Keith Moon. His flailing arms, stick swirls and wristy technique are a sight to behold, you easily find yourself in a hypnotic trance! Terry Wyatt's fantastic timing and finger-picking skills were a homage to the late, great, bass player, John Entwistle; brilliantly complemented by the energetic performance from Pete Dixon on guitar, fully emblazoned in a white jump as worn by his namesake Pete Townshend at Woodstock in 1969. I can’t recommend this band highly enough, and as usual the Robin 2 provided the perfect backdrop for the gig, producing an fantastic atmosphere and ambiance, The Robin 2 is the perfect venue for live music!
Who's Who will next be at The Robin 2 on Friday the 14th of July, tickets can be purchased from www.therobin.co.uk. For information on Who’s Who please visit their web site, www.thewhotribute.com. (Reviewed by Guest Author Paul Hill, Thanks also to Mrs Rachael Fellows for the images.)
