As the Small Fakers started their set it was immediately apparent how they have clearly mastered the The Small Faces band's presence and stage attitude. What I didn't expect is quite how much they physically resemble the band! Mark Bond, on vocals, bares an uncanny resemblance to the late great Steve Marriott, vocally, and his on stage mannerisms are mesmerising to say the least. Special mentions too for Neil Runalis - Bass and vocals, as Ronnie Lane,Dean Rees; organ, piano and vocals as Ian MacLagan, and Dan Taylor - drums as Kenney Jones who all added to a fantastic musical experience. The crowd didn't take long to warm up when The Fakers played out the classics" Sha La La La Lee", "Here Come the Nice" "Lazy Sunday Afternoon" and "Itchycoo Park" to name but a few. The band's interaction with the audience is one of their top features!
Other hits and favourite songs followed throughout the wonderful set including "Hey Girl", "All or Nothing", and a personal favourite of mine, "Tin Soldier". The band did everything right and I am sure that both the sadly missed Steve Marriott and Ronnie Lane would have approved at the thought of their timeless songs given the respect they deserve by a group of extremely talented musicians. I really can't wait to see The Small Fakers again, and would certainly wholeheartedly recommend anyone to catch one of their gigs, I can promise you won't be disappointed!
