When class 5L’s teacher, the popular Mrs Lewis goes to Australia to teach, her replacement, Miss Ironside is rather sinister to say the least! When Miss Ironside’s evil actions make a pupil, Will, realise she is not human he has to face the difficult task of trying to convince his fellow classmates, who are gradually being brainwashed into becoming “Ironsiders”; and the even more difficult challenge of trying to expose her for what she is! I sat and read this book with my 8 year old son over a few evenings and he couldn’t wait for each chapter! We were both very interested in this extremely well written book which captured both our imaginations. I think what was appealing as well as the robot element was the pupil/teacher conflict. I would recommend it for the 8 - 11 years age range mainly, but parents/grandparents will no doubt find it an enjoyable read too. This book is an excellent debut from Gloucester based author Phil Barnes and we hope it is the first of many! We are eagerly anticipating the author’s next book, “My Teacher’s a Spy”.
