Mark Maze is an English Singer/Songwriter who has written songs mainly about heartbreak and individualism. Comparisons are being drawn amongst others to Michael Jackson and Bruno Mars. Mark was born and raised on a rough council estate near Leicester until his parents divorced. His drive and love of music inspired him to want a better life. He has experience in working at a talent agency and uses this knowledge and experience to appreciate what seperates people from their competition. Here is my review of his album ‘Uncomfortable Truths’: The album begins with ‘The Devil May Cry’ and is an instantly good song on first hearing, it is a very professional track with hints of Erasure/Yazoo in its style. It is my personal favourite track on this album and an excellent way to begin it!
Tracks 2 and 3 ‘2nd Best ‘ and ‘Get Gone’ are more modern, catchy songs with a light rock feel. I am slightly reminded of Busted or Savage Garden with their sound. Track 4 ‘Your Bite was Beautiful’ again is reminiscent of Erasure. Marks vocals are truly soulful and this is a lovely song. Track 5 ‘Crazy’ is a contradiction of Mark’s ballads! It is more edgy and shows he is capable of diversifying to different musical styles. Track 6 ‘Crying Game’ is a very moving song lyrically which makes you think. It is intelligent and deep. Track 7 ‘Robot Eyes’ is also a moving song lyrically as well as being original. Track 8 ‘Get Your Back Up’ has a more 80’s pop/disco appeal. Track 9 ‘What are we fighting for?’ is another song which Mark sings with heart and soul. It is a good choice to end this original album on. If you’re a fan of 80’s music, Savage Garden, Busted or The Script, I would recommend giving the extremely talented Mark Maze a listen! Karen Hill
