I only discovered Inglorious a couple of months ago, when I heard the track ‘Unaware’ being played on Planet Rock. I was absolutely blown away by everything about this song and knew I had to buy their album and see them perform live! I am so lucky that I had my chance, at The Robin 2 in Bilston. The fact that Inglorious had just played a very successful set at Download on Saturday added an enthusiasm in the crowd that you wouldn’t normally get anywhere on a Monday night. Before seeing them, and on the strength of their self-titled album; I have predicted great things for these guys and seeing them live only confirms this. The great intimate atmosphere was enhanced by the superb support of Western Sand, and Inglorious arrived on stage with ‘Won’t Get Fooled Again’ (by The Who) playing on the speakers, again another great choice. They kicked off the set with ‘Until I Die’ from their debut ‘Inglorious’ album and played the entire album along with a new track from their next upcoming album, a surprise acoustic set, (which they accomplished very smoothly, especially considering the change of instruments!) and “cheeky covers” which included an outstanding version of ‘I Surrender’ by Rainbow. The age of the audience was wide ranging, which I always believe is a good sign at a gig as it demonstrates the appeal of the band across the generations. Singer Nathan James captivated the audience with his extremely powerful vocals, which in my opinion are in the league of Bruce Dickinson, as well as his almost theatrical stage presence. The musicians in the band all came across as likeable as well as extremely talented.
My own personal highlights were ‘Unaware’ and the self-titled track ‘Inglorious’, but the set was flawless and the Monday blues were definitely removed from myself and the rest of the crowd! If you’re a fan of rock music I thoroughly recommend you catch these guys live and I stand by my prediction of major success for them!
