Being a massive Space fan, I was really looking forward to seeing them live, particularly as this was my first chance in twenty years! To say I wasn’t disappointed would be a massive understatement! Everything about the band was amazing. I have always liked lead singer Tommy Scott, but he had an extra charisma about him that I wasn’t expecting. The crowd instantly warmed to the band and although the venue is on the smaller side, the atmosphere was electric!
Tommy has a natural down to earth charm which went down very well. He also adds to his singing with great guitar playing and appropriate facial expressions enhance his singing even more. He is fantastic at interacting with the audience. The band played a mixture of forthcoming songs and classic crowd pleasers like ‘Avenging Angels’, ‘Mr Psycho’, ‘Me and You V The World’ and my own personal favourite, ‘Begin Again’. I wasn’t expecting ‘The Ballad of Tom Jones’ to be performed and it was a nice surprise this was done through Cerys Matthews kind of duetting via a big screen, it worked very well! The band also performed a fantastic cover of the Animals ‘We Gotta Get Out of This Place’. Naturally, one of the big highlights was ‘Female of the Species’, which was sang once with Tommy leading, and once by volunteers from the audience, including myself, who were persuaded up to the stage! Tommy even had the decency to meet and chat with members of the audience afterwards, which is pretty rare amongst singers these days. My husband who had joined me for the show was pleasantly surprised by it and said it was the best gig he had ever seen! I would thoroughly recommend Space for an amazingly awesome gig and night out!
